I think we can say Ashley has sprung back from the setback she had from battling the infection from last weekend.
Over the weekend and especially today Ashley was showing marked improvement. Whereas she was more irritable during the first few days back from Northwestern Hospital, the last couple of nights she slept well and was looking around more and seemed more comfortable.
Ashley had made significant progress just over a week ago in moving her head and locating sources of sound and tracking them. Then the infection threw her for a loop. Now she is making up for that.
In physical therapy today she was in a supported standing position for nearly 30 minutes. That is the longest she has had her weight on her feet yet. During occupational therapy her task was to place pegs in a board. She needed assistance, but it was apparent that she was concentrating quite hard looking back and forth from the board to the container of pegs. Toward the end she was showing frustration with her lack of eye-hand coordination, but that in itself is a sign of progress that she is focusing in on a task and has the desire to complete it.
Even though the cold weather is moving in Ashley is getting bundled up and taking on the windy city with trips to the park a block away and even going to the neighborhood grocery store with Mary.
Ashley’s original return date was a week from this coming Friday (November 16th) but now her doctor is considering an extension. We are for Ashley staying longer especially due to setback and the rebound she is now making.

Dear Ashley,
Wow, you got to stand up. I hope that felt good to you. Your mom and dad keep us posted on your therapy and we know how hard you are working. Keep it up honey. We're also happy to hear that you get to go shopping, but I really think your mom should take you to Water Tower, forget the corner grocery store. I'll be up Tuesday. I have some more jokes to tell you from Angela and the kids at school. I also got you a celebrity gossip magazine so we can catch up on all the dirt. We love you, Uncle Stan, Aunt Lynn, and Angela
Hi Ashley,
You don't know our family but our son is in the same grade with your brother. We continue to pray for you daily and love to read the blog about all of your accomplishments! Keep up the good work. We can't wait to meet you some day so we can shake your hand and give you a hug! Our love and prayers are with you and your family. Take care!
Ashley,
It is so good to hear you keep improving each day! You are constantly in my and my family's prayers. I have been thinking about you constantly these past couple, and hope you know how many people love and care for you. I will have to come visit you with Emily soon. I miss you and hope each day gets easier and easier. Love you Ash,
Katie Witte
Hey Ashley,
I am glad to hear that you are doing better and I really hope that things continue to improve for you. We are all praying for you everyday and hopefully you will return home soon.

Keep it up Ash! You're such a fighter! I'm glad your Aunt Lynn is keeping you up to date on celebrity gossip! If I can't be there to do it, somebody has to, right? Hopefully there won't be a picture of Zac Efron sporting his ponytail. Yes, I said ponytail. It really is sad, the boy is so attractive, and then he does something like that! haha! I miss you so much, and I think about you constantly! I'm sending all of my love your way!
Samantha
Ashley--
Ohhh hey girl!! Sounds like you are bouncing back, indeed! GOOD! Like I said, you gave us quite a scare. How exciting that you are extending your "stand time!" I hope to view this progress-- please don't get sick on me again! No set-backs! ... I wonder if the "!" key can wear out... I am always so excited to write you, so the "!" gets a lot of use... And it's not even as if I'm only typing the "!" No, no... my thoughts have "!s" too. Because I'm cool like that, and think in "!s"
I have so much to tell you when I get to see you again. I'm telling you this in advance so perhaps your parents and I can work out a time: The 16th, your "maybe" move-date, is also the day I'm visiting Carolyn in Chicago. I, of course, want to see you and visit with her, and Care expressed a great interest in seeing you as well. Maybe we can work something out. Also, I just read Katie's comment, and maybe we can bring her also! Again, I'll be in touch with your parents.
Not a day (hour, second, moment) goes by that I don't think of you. You are always in my thoughts, prayers, and heart.
I love you!
XoXo,
Emily
Dear Ashley,
I am so happy to hear that you are bouncing right back from your infection. It was tough going for a few days, but you are a very strong young lady and have the will to keep going. That is a very special quality and be very proud of yourself. "I bet you get that from your mom & dad". They have been right there for you and I feel very blessed that they are a part of my life too! You keep up the hard work and soon you will be running circle around me. Enjoy your trips outside and the fresh air...stand tall and say look out world here I come!!!
Love you & family..in my prayers!
Laura
Hi Ashley, It sounds like you are doing lots of new things! I can't wait to see you again. I'm so glad you beat that nasty infection and are able to take on the challenges of your therapy. Janet and I are wanting to take the train up there. See you soon, I Love you. Aunt Ann P.S. Tessa is looking really pregnant now. Her baby is due in a month. She sends her love, too.
Hey Ashley,
I am so happy that you are still working so hard in all of your therapy sessions! It sounds like your getting stronger Ash! I am also impressed that you are taking on the city still! Fort Fabulous is absolutely freezing! I tried to avoid wearing my winter coat for as long as absolutely possible, but last Thursday, it dropped to 30 degrees and I had to cave. haha
I also was observed teaching at Precious Blood, and I was like please God just let them behave for 30 mins, I was so nervous Ash it wasn't even funny. My class behaved and I was so relieved.
Oh and my sister defintely heard through the grape vine that Mr. Efron is no longer dating Vanessa whether or not that's true, we'll have to ask Sam HAHA! Love you tons Ash and I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better!
XOXOXO, Holly
