Ashley seems to be getting along well with her therapists. Today with speech her swallowing was very consistent. I am sure Ashley can’t wait to graduate from juice to something a bit more substantial.
Tomorrow Ashley is going to go to the ‘technology floor’. The goal there is to come up with a means or device with which Ashley will be able to consistently communicate a yes/no response. We know having a means of communicating will be a huge positive impact on Ashley and will provide her more confidence. Please pray that they have success tomorrow in developing a means of accomplishing that.
As Ashley achieves more motor skill response she also encounters issues with muscle spasms and cramps. It becomes a balancing act for her medication (over medicate and she would be to lethargic, under medicate and she might experience pain that slows her down) but over the last couple of days she seems to be more comfortable. Hopefully that will remain the case.
Ashley has received several cards and gifts for her birthday so on her behalf let me say thank you! When I go up on the weekends I fire up Ashley’s notebook Mac and read her the comments that are posted on her blog. She really enjoys that, so if you have something you would like to share with Ashley I encourage you to jot it down and you can be assured Ashley will hear it.

Ashley, OHMYGOSH, that sounds so fabulous, so amazing! That is great news!!! I have had a pretty bummin' day, and reading your update has put the BIGGEST smile on my face. I'm practically SKIPPING around the apartment. I told mom and she was cheering on the phone. We are so excited for you. Notice the repetition of "so" throughout the blog. Wow, I totally used the word "blog." And then I used "totally." Can you tell school has my brain fried?
ANYWAY, I am so happy for you, Ash. I hope you can show me all of your accomplishments that you've acquired in such a short amount of time when I come to visit over Fall Break!
I love you!!
Emily
P.S Ma says that you are continually in the prayers at home, and you know you're ALWAYS in mine!
Wow, we can't wait to see you tomorrow and hear more about all of your hard work and accomplishments. It looks like the whole Valpo gang will be coming by tomorrow. Angela is so excited. We pray for your success with the technology people tomorrow. (Aunt Beth is shaking in her boots simply over the word technology, Grandma might be too) But we know you can handle it. Go get 'em Ashley. Love, Aunt Lynn, Uncle Stan and Angela
Ashley, that is so exciting! I hope you can get a great system going, so we can talk when I come visit... hopefully I'm going to come see you next Saturday, October 6th!
I'll keep you posted...talk to you soon! :) Courtney
Dear Ashley, today Lynn, Angela, Beth, Jessica and Alex are all coming to visit you. Wish we were there too.
We are looking forward to coming up next week and spending time with you.
Love & prayers, Grandma & Grandpa
WOW ASH!!
I want to mimic that word and how excited I am for you to possibly be able to communicate a little better!!
I agree with Emily I was having a fried Friday and hearing that made me smile, hopefully things go well today with your visit to the technology floor and then tomorrow with your beloved Irish!! They do have to face those crazy boilermakers and let me tell you I think both teams are fired up so it should be a good match up from West Lafayette!!
I talked to Austin a little the past few days and that was good, I just want you to know once again that you are ALWAYS in my thoughts and prayers and I have the coaches picture from the pool this summer hanging right over my bed next to your senior pictures!!
love you!
Rach
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Harrington and Austin,
I have a story that I would like to share with you. I am in a cultural diversity class and we are currently studying other religions. As part of the assignment, I attended a Jewish synagogue this evening. The synagogue
itself was beautiful, and the service was beautiful as well. Children were leading the congregation in beautiful Hebrew sing-song prayers. I was following along in my book, when I realized that the rabbi started reciting names for prayers of healing. About half way through the list he prayed for Ashley Harrington. I was frozen. I approached the rabbi after the service, and asked him if he knew Ashley. I told him that she was a good friend of mine. He said that the prayer intention was actually added earlier this week by a member of his congregation. I told him that it was Ashley's birthday earlier in the week when her name was added. It's amazing how things happen for a reason. I was meant to be in that synagogue tonight. It's also amazing how many prayers are coming your way for you and Ashley. People who are from a completely different religion are including Ashley in all their services. The rabbi sends Ashley and all of you his prayers, and he also promised me that he would leave her name on their prayer intention list. I love you all and just wanted to share this story with you! Give Ashley a hug from me!

Hey Ashley!
Thrilled to hear about the new communication technique - just another confirmation that you're in the right place!
Keep rooting for your ND Irish - they're showing a lot of promise. I (Vicki) attended the Purdue/ND game yesterday - it was great! I was in the end zone with a 50-50 mix of Boiler-Irish fans. A young Irish fan was in front of me - he was grinning ear-to-ear when ND started scoring in the 2nd half. That's what it's all about - the kids believing in their team. Of course, since Mike has worked at Purdue for 26 years...well, I'm sure you can guess who I was rooting for!! After all, the univ has helped put food on our table for a long time!
Take care & keep up the good work! You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Love, Mike, Vicki, & Ben
