September 6th

Ashley will be leaving for Chicago next Tuesday.

She was a 'bit under the weather' over the weekend and at the start of this week, but she appears to be feeling better now. Ashley has had her trachea tube 'down sized' which is a sign of progress. We can now hear Ashley since air can once again pass her vocal cords. She is not speaking yet, there will be therapy for that, but after nearly 10 weeks it is a joy to hear any sound from Ashley.

With each day we are more confident that Ashley is ready for the next, more aggressive stage of rehabilitation. She smiles when we tell her that the progress she is showing means she is moving up to the next level.

It is a slow process, but it is obvious that the myelin is regrowing and Ashley is gaining more range and consistency in what she is able to do.

Your prayers for Ashley's safe travel and successful rehabilitation leading to a full recovery are appreciated.

Ash-
Hey, sweetheart! Ma told me you're moving to Chicago-- how exciting! I know it's for the best, and I'm sure you're going to kick "tail" (parent-edit, right? haha!) with your rehabilitation. I Mapquest'ed the trip from Purdue to Chicago and it's only a two hour drive, same as it is from PU to FW (and with the way I drive, it could be less!). I would love to visit you in Chicago, as well!
I'm packing up to go home right now, and I'm coming in on Saturday to see you. I can't wait!
I love you, missy!!
XoXo,
Emily

Dear Ashley,
I was amazed at the back to school nights at both St. Vincent's and Bishop Dwenger. So many people ask about you and most of the teachers at BD started things out with a prayer. You lead the list of "Special intentions". Nobody got more Prayer time than you. Abbey went to the Roller Dome fundraiser and said the place was packed. Although she cannot skate, she had a blast. Chelsea wants to take a second look at DePaul so we might visit you in Chicago.
God Bless! and God's speed in your recovery!

Ashley.......although we have not seen you while you've been in the Fort, you and your family our continually in our thoughts and prayers. We know you are a fighter (well, not literally!!) but after all those years of swimming and we can't forget those tumbling classes for cheerleading, we are confident that you will work hard in PT and meet your goals. Take care and remember that all things are possible with and thru God!! Best of Luck, honey....The Sorgs Jeff, Barb, Alison, Blair, and Nick.
