April 29th

Ashley enjoyed her road trip to Valparaiso this weekend for her cousin's first communion. In fact we all did. She was even wide awake coming and going taking in all the sights.

It was another good week for Ashley. She did well in therapy and with a few medical/dental appointments thrown in. She was quite the cooperative patient which makes everything that much better.

Ashley started demonstrating an new skill yesterday. As we were finishing our dinner (Ashley has her 'pleasure feeding' with us) we asked if she wanted anything else and Mary noticed that Ashley appeared to make an intentional exaggerated blink with both eyes. "Could this be Ashley saying no?" Well we immediately started putting Ashley to the test...

Yes! or should I say No! Either way, Ashley is now using her button to say yes and she will blink to say no. It was quite exciting at the Harrington house last night as we salted Ashley with yes/no questions.

Thank you for your continued prayers for Ashley and us.

Dear Ashley,
We all need to say "no" sometimes, so I'm very happy for you that you have come up with another way to communicate! Good work, as always from you. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to have you and your family here on Sunday. It was a special day for us, but even more so when we saw all of you in church. We love to hear of your progress and are always amazed by your determination.
Now, the cat is cute...don't listen to Aunt Beth. Love, Aunt Lynn, Uncle Stan and Angela

Ashley!!!!!!!!!! OK, I hope your dad tells you that there are a lot of exclamation points when he reads this because I am so super happy for you!! Another breakthrough, how wonderful! Good for you! Congratulations! Lots of other happy, yay phrases!! I cannot wait to see you, I am chomping at the bit to get home (yes, I apparently turned into a horse since I've been gone!).

I don't have a job yet, which is really wearing on my nerves, but I'm making sure that no matter what happens, I get to see you a lot (that is, if you'll see me!). As I'm writing this, I haven't taken any of my Finals yet (Wed, Fri, Sat), but we definitely have the Finals Atmosphere around the entire campus.

Keep up the fantastically amazing work, Ashley. I am so proud of you! AHH, ALMOST HOME!!!

I love you!
XoXo,
Emily*

PS. I'm happy to hear that your roadtrip went well, and that you got to soak in your family and a different location!! :)
