We missed posting an update last week so we have some catching up to do.
We can tell that the ‘Walking, Talking and Eating’ prayers are catching on and having an affect. In the last two weeks Ashley has been more consistent in her eating exercises. Ashley continues to vocalize at an increasing rate and we are occasionally hearing new sounds. In her gait trainer (a rolling support Ashley uses to practice walking) she has initiated steps several times and has actually taken full steps without any assistance!!!
Of all the progress Ashley has made, seeing her raise a leg, move it forward and plant her foot firmly in front of her; it is breathtaking.
We are ever grateful to all of you that keep Ashley and our family in your prayers. We are seeing, first hand, the real and positive impact your prayers are having for us.
As you will see from the latest picture posted to the site Ashley went for a boat ride while visiting her grandparents. Ashley’s social calendar continues to fill with activities. Since the last update Ashley saw a musical at the Civic Theater, visited her co-workers at GlenAqua Pool, spent a weekend at the lake and has received visits from literally dozens of friends and family. We know that the increase and variety in her activities is having a positive impact on her.
We are taking advantage of the sunny summer days and getting out for walks. We know that all too soon we will be longing for being able to spend time outside. Ashley has yet to turn down an opportunity to get out and about.

Hi Ashley,
Seeing you in that boat was a Trip!
Oh,Gosh, I sound like Uncle Dave.
Whenever I see you it's exciting because I see the progress you're making.
Love to You and Austin and your Folks,
Aunt Kathy and Uncle Dave xx
Ashley, I love the picture of you with your mom in the boat. I then went back and looked at all the pictures from the first to the last, and it's amazing to see the progress you have made. It's wonderful to see your beautiful smile, and it's great to read about how well you are doing. Keep it up - I'm praying for SINGING too! Take care and much love,
Aunt Becky
Hi Ashley,
My name is Ana. I met your dad and brother in Seattle. My brother, George, had ADEM about 1 1/2 years ago. It's taken me a while, but I read every entry on your blog. Start to finish. You are amazing...your family and friends, too. Our family is certain that faithful prayers have helped my brother heal and improve. We have now added our new Indiana friend in our prayers :) It was a slow process for George, but improvements are always happening, as they will with you...Email me whenever you want...

Hi Ashley and Co. Roger and I sure were glad to see you at your grandparent's house at Lake Freeman. Hope you all had fun that weekend. Sure looked like it by the way everybody was smiling! You and your family are always in our prayers...we check your progress in the blog, too. Keep up your wonderful spirit. God bless you and yours. Your friends from Lake Freeman, Helen and Roger
Ashley,
I wish we could have been at the the lake for the boat ride. Grandma and Grandpa said you had a good time and I can tell from the big smile on your face. Tell your mom and dad thanks for letting Alex, Jess and Kelsey stay the night last week. The kids really like watching you during therapy. They all commented on how much you have improved. I am hoping to stop by either next week or the week after to see you. You are in our prayers. Love Aunt Beth, Uncle Craig, Alex and Jess
Ash-
Hey girl heeey!
Do you remember that my family has a "Week Up At the Lake"? (I know you're nodding.) Well, we recently had that and of course, I had to work (bummmmerrrr). However, I did get to go up Thursday-Sunday, and I even took my three little charges with me! Wait 'til you hear THAT story! But I digress--
During the Dent Week, I was sitting in the boat (and later, floating on the raft), thinking how awesome it would be if I could get you to my lake. I was imagining you with me, relaxing and enjoying the lake the whole time I was up there. Of course, if we were floating on the raft, Tank would want up... But that's okay... right? :)
I think it's great you got to ride in a boat at your grandparent's lake. I'm so happy that you are able to do these things. How wonderful! I keep praying for you, every day, all of the time, as does the rest of my family. I know how therapeutic the water is for you (we water-lovin'-gals...!), so I'm sure it was extra-special being near/around/in it.
It sounds like you're making even more strides-- literally!-- every day. You're getting this Walking thing down; you know the rest! Can't wait to see all three!
I love you, Ashley!
XoXo,
Emily*
Ashley,
You continue to amaze me with your progress and you are certainly an inspiration to the rest of us.
When you get bored with working out have your Mom bring you to St. V. I could always use an assisstant Sci.teacher!
God bless,
E. Martin
Hi, Ashley. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you are getting along with your new communication system. I'm looking forward to reading your dad's update, as I always do.
It's a good thing you aren't in Florida right now. Tropical Storm Fay is attempting to head this way, but luckily for my family it's on the west coast. Unfortunately, that may not be good news for your grandparents! My county is due to get a lot of rain - nearly 12 inches! - but not enough wind to be a real problem. (If only we'd had the rain back in May when so much of the city was on fire!)
Today was the first day of school, and now we have tomorrow off. I'm disappointed about that, although I imagine some of my students will be happy to have another day off - at least until October, when they'll have to make up the day!
Keeping you, Austin and your parents in my daily prayers.
Trish
