Yes Ashley has reached the ‘double duce”. As you can see Ashley celebrated with the therapists this afternoon. She has received a bunch of cards and phone calls. On behalf of Ashley, “Thank you!”
Since our last update we have a lot of exciting Ashley news.
Standing and Balancing – Ashley is now able to stand up under her own strength from the therapy table and not only that she is able to balance without anyone, or thing, supporting her. Ashley has stood on her own without assistance for more than two minutes. Way to go Ash!
On the therapy table Ashley was also able to go from being on her hands and knees to raising her self to being on her knees. Again without any assistance. At times it seems like Ashley’s progress is moving too slow, but when we see her do things like that it reminds us that we are on God and Ashley’s time. We just have to keep the faith and provide Ashley with the tools and support she needs to continue to improve. Thanks to all of you that keep her in your prayers.
We had front row seats to the IU Western Michigan football game when we went down to visit Austin. What was neat about that is the handicap seating is behind the visitor’s bench which enabled us to see Austin at the top of the press box where the IU videographers are. In turn he was able to see us and his grandparents that were further up from us in the same section.
Following the game we did another first with Ashley. We went out to dinner, nothing new there, but we ordered off the menu for Ashley and she ate pasta. This is the first time we have gone out and not had Ashley’s food pureed. Her serving was easy to work with to get to the texture she needed.
Ashley has had more medications removed. Ashley from now on receives two meds and both are at very low levels. When she came home from Chicago Ashley was on thirteen different medications. It certainly makes a difference in her energy level.
Ashley had a complete workup and all of her levels were in the normal range. When it came to things like cholesterol and blood pressure she has readings most of us could only dream of. When you couple that with the motivation Ashley has it means there is no stopping her.
We have a busy fall lined up for Ashley. We are going to make a trip over to St. Mary’s and Notre Dame on October 24th when they host Boston College. We are looking forward to seeing Ashley’s classmates that are in their senior year. We are also planning on going to Columbus, Ohio in early November to visit Sandy and Pauline and to meet Al who was struck with ADEM but is now in medical school.
Have a wonderful Fall.

Happy Birthday Ashley,
I am glad you got to an IU game. Of course, anything IU is great by me!! Your schedule is very hectic which means your stamina has improved tremendously. I am so proud of all your hard work and steady progress. I can only reiterate that I pegged you as special when you were 10!
God bless,
E.Martin
Happy birthday, Ashley! I'm thrilled to hear about all the progress that you're making. I'm settled down here in Indy for IU's doctor of physical therapy program, and I think about you weekly in class with all the topics we're covering.
I hope to make it back up to Ft. Wayne to visit Lutheran and hopefully catch you sometime over winter break.
Keep up the excellent work!

Hey Ashley!
I hope you had a great 22nd Birthday!! That is awesome you are able to stand now for 4 minutes!! Keep up the good work, and I'm praying for you!
Also, I saw that you are going to the Boston College game at ND. Greg and I are going to that one too, so we should meet up!! It would be great to see you since I don't come home that often.
Love you
Meredith
Happy Happy Birthday!!!! Grandma and Grandpa told us how great you were doing- just what I expected!!!!! They said they had a great time at IU. Glad the weather was decent. Jessica has been peer tutoring at school for some of the kids in the LD program and she loves it. She was thinking about nursing but I'm thinking she maybe leaning towards teaching, she comes home and pretty much all she talks about are the kids and how much she likes it. She doesn't go on about anatomy class!!!! Alex really likes the classes he is taking and has been working almost full time so he is busy, busy, I hardly see him anymore. Your birthday cake looked really good now I'm hungry. Thank goodness Uncle Craig brought home m@ms. We love and miss you. Cassidys
Ashley hows it going?

I am so proud and excited for you, this the best news I have heard. I pray for you every night. When I wake up and cant get back to sleep I pray, I pray for you. I ask God to provide you strength, support and peace. This is such great news. My hat is off to you and I am standing up cheering. Keep it up.
Happy Birthday
May God give you strength
You and your family are in our prayers Always,,,Chris
Hi Ashley,
I feel like you are the one who is giving all of us a birthday gift. Just seeing the picture of you standing and balancing on your own is a great gift. Your hard work is paying off. It will be great to hear about your visit with Sandy, his wife and Al. What inspiring people they are, very much like a 22 year old I know.....
We love you, Aunt Lynn, Uncle Stan and Angela - Mittens too (yes Jeff, the cat is still with us)
Dear Ashley and Family,

Ash--
Hello, my darling! I'm back posting on this and leaving Facebook for another time :)
That's so cool you go to go to the football game. Those looked like great seats! I hope Austin is having a fun time being with the football team! I'm not normally scared of heights, but those press boxes are so high! Eek!
Let's hear it for spaghetti! YUM! How wonderful that you got to eat real food! Speaking of pasta, do you remember when we made lasagna our senior year? I haven't made it since, but I'm making it this weekend. I sure do wish you were here to help me out! We had so much fun cooking that night!
Sounds like you have a very busy Fall. That's no surprise, though, you social butterfly! I'm so happy you're able to get out and about and are comfortable in different situations. A change of scenery is always nice, and doing and seeing people helps a lot, I'm sure!
As always, you are doing a fantastic job with your therapy. I'm happy to hear your meds are knocked down even more, AND you're balancing by yourself! You have come so far and have accomplished such wonderful things. I am so proud of you and I am in incredible awe of your determination and strength.
Keep up the amazingly fantastic work. Every night, and especially loud every Sunday, I say, "God, please be with Ashley. Walk! Talk! Eat! Especially TALK, God!"
I love you, Miss Ashley! Keep smiling that beautiful smile!
XoXo,
Emily*
