Ashley’s grandparents came to visit over the weekend and we immediately pressed them into service. Among the things they helped us with was staining Ashley’s new dresser as we round out the renovation of Ashley’s temporary quarters on the main floor of our home. The new layout is working out quite well.
The big news so far this week is that Ashley’s award winning smile has returned to its original prominence. On Tuesday morning Ashley’s dentist straightened and bonded Ashley’s loose front tooth back into place. It looks as good as it ever did. It is certainly making eating a lot easier for Ashley as well.
On Monday we took Ashley to a neurologist that specializes in movement disorders. He is going to be assisting Ashley in dealing with her tone and spasticity issues. We are confident that the measures they will be taking in the up coming weeks will greatly aid Ashley in her efforts both for comfort and making new strides in therapy.
This also marks the start of five days a week in therapy for Ashley. With the move back to Fort Wayne we started out at three days of out-patient, then four and now Ashley receives physical, occupational and speech therapy everyday. Soon Ashley will be receiving a computer that will attach to her wheelchair. This system will primarily aid Ashley with communicating to others. It will also allow her to access the internet and forms of entertainment that she will control.
Ashley’s short-term memory is even showing strength lately. That was an area that is particularly susceptible with her type of injury. She can often remember the current date and will answer questions from topics discussed earlier in the day or in previous days.
There is no stopping Ashley. While the process seems painfully slow at times it is awe inspiring to see her continued determination. Now she has the brilliant smile reflect her confidence. A confidence that is reinforced with all the loving and prayerful support we are surrounded by.

Ashley, I can't wait to see your smile!!! Jess was disappointed her braces weren't removed but the Dr. knows best. Grandma and Grandpa were so impressed with how much you have progressed. Hey what's up with Austin? In every picture Grandma showed us Austin was sprawled out on your bed!!! I want to be him!!!! Keep up the good work and keep on smiling. See ya soon. Love Aunt Beth
Hi Ashley,
Grandma and Grandpa couldn't stop talking about your progress. They are so happy to see how well you are doing and how hard you are working! They are very prouc of you Ashley! Aunt Beth isn't kidding, she will be trying out your bed when we come to visit.
I'm so glad to hear you are getting a computer. I know you'll love that. Before you know it, you'll be responding to all of us yourself. Tell Austin to move over, Aunt Beth is on her way.
Love, Aunt Lynn
Ashley, it sounds like you are doing so well! I can't wait to see you again with that beautiful smile. We pray for you and your family every day, and it is wonderful to hear how much you are progressing and improving!!

Ashley-
So glad to hear about the therapy five days a week! Of course it makes me think about your van situation and wish we could get you a van of your own. I keep trying to think of things so let me know if I can help with this in ANY way.
We wave to you every afternoon when we see a van go by!
Love

Ashley Marie-
Hey girl hey! Sounds like you're doing great! And I'm so happy for you about your smile being restored. That's wonderful! And oooh, a computer for your chair! You are so high-tech.
Unfortunately, I have some bad news, but it's mildly supported with good news...
Bad news: I don't know when I'm coming back. My weekends became incredibly filled up. I want to come home and see you so badly. I will keep you alert on when I know for sure, but it's a tentative March 1 at the moment. This makes me incredibly Sadface. I hate going too long without seeing you.
The mild good news (and when I say good, I mean interesting) is that Ben Folds is coming to Purdue and Grant, Nicole (my sissy!), and I are going to it! I wish you could be there, it would be so fun!
Also, I'm hoping to go to Tampa for Spring Break (which means I won't get to see you over SB... making me also very Sadface). However, the flip side of that is... the last time I was at the beach was Mexico-- WITH YOU! Which brings back great memories.
Remember that stupid crawfish we named and played with until the waiter took him away? Oh, and Pretty Night when we got all dressed up? Laying out on the beach, getting tan. Snorkeling at Xel Ha! All of the fishies! That AMAZING pool, with the chairs in the water... and the swim-up bars! TAKE A PICTURE! Oh, oh! And the Swing Bar, with the chairs that hung from ropes?!
Oooh what a fabulous vacation. Nothing can beat that. I hope this little trip down memory lane helps jog your brain a bit and brings out that gorgeous 100 watt of yours.
Keep on smiling, Ash. We're all praying for you!
I love you!
XoXo,
Emily
PS. If your parents haven't done so, tell them to call my mom back on when she and Rene can come over and visit with you. You know my mom loves seeing you!!
We have followed Ashleys progress(thanks to you and this site). We think of you often, VERY often. Do you remember the day that I was filling out paperwork for my grand-daughter, Kaitlyn, and when you read my relationship to her as "grandmother", you looked up at me smiled with that big old smile of yours and said "Oh, you don't look old enough to be a grandmother". Honey, you made my month. I remember that well. I hope you do too. YOU made this grandmother smile then and now! Love, The Millers
My Dear Ashley,
Wow! What great news! I am so happy to hear about all of the positive changes! I am so excited for you! yay Ashley!
I am still trying to redeem my good health before I come over to visit you! My house has pretty much gone through a range of sicknesses. I brought the cold, Lauren's bringing a high fever for a week now. I am avoiding her..haha and trying to get rid of my gross cough. yucky!
I am so happy that they are setting you up with a computer on your chair! Now you can join Sam in looking up the latest Zac Efron news! haha!
Oh and while you will be sleeping tonight, I have to be at USF at 12 midnight. I will be getting on a bus with my cheerleading squad and competing sometime in the wee hours of the morning in Columbus Ohio. A competetion that we are totally not ready for at all! The last time we tried to do the routine with the music, one of the girls got her front tooth completely knocked out! It was actually really gross, and I took her to Dr. Briscoes at 11 at night! Apparently the girl is still going to compete, they are going to have to hook her up with some kind of attractive face guard I'm sure! YIKES!
Saints Alive is tonight and I miss working at it actually! Remember when we got to be the pretty models Senior Year? That was so much fun!
Love You Ash, and as soon as I'm not going to cough all over you, I'm coming over! My family says hi! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Holly :)
Ashley,
I love to read this blog. It makes me smile and feel good all over to know so many people love you and are praying for you. Your friends are awesome! (is that word used anymore?) We'll see you soon. Love, Aunt Lynn
Hey Ashley! It sounds like you are making significant strides towards recovery. I saw the new pictures and your smile is beautiful!! I've been trying to visit you but school of course has been crazy. Hopefully I will see you before the year is over. I found out that Dierks Bentley is playing in South Bend soon and I immediately thought of you! We'll have to be sure to go next year when he comes again :)
Hopefully I will see you soon!! I love and miss you so much!
Kelly
