Christmas Eve

Our best gift is already realized. Our family will celebrate Christmas together at home this year.

We are also fortunate that the worse ice storm we have experienced only affected our power briefly last Friday. There are still thousands of homes in Fort Wayne without power and heat and we had single digit low temperatures this week.

This week we found out about another girl (the same age as Ashley when she was struck) that has been in a coma for a month due to ADEM. Please add Jessica and her family to your prayers that she will emerge from her coma and recover and that her family finds peace.

A few days ago Mary was putting rollers in Ashley’s hair. Standing behind Ashley, she would ask Ashley for a roller when she needed it and Ashley would grab one and hand it back to her. This got us talking about how many ‘simple’ things we take for granted in our daily lives. Ashley smiled and nodded ‘yes’. We knew that behind that smile was a lot of humble confidence.

With the Christmas Break Ashley has already had several friends over. She glows brighter than the Christmas tree when interacting with her friends. Listening to her laugh and seeing her direct eye contact around the room as the conversation flows is priceless.

Since we see Ashley everyday the changes are so subtle. Seeing her pass hair rollers and watching her interact with friends illustrates to us that Ashley is making monumental strides.

A year ago at Christmas time we were excited (and very thankful) because Ashley was consistent in using her ‘Yes’ button so we could finally communicate with her. We have certainly come a long way in a year. With all the pray support and the fact that Ashley continues to put everything she has into striving for a full recovery we have faith that she will get there, on God’s time.

We all have our challenges and crosses to bear. Christmas is a time for all of us to remember that our living Savior is here. This excerpt from Margaret Fishback Powers’ version of Footprints has always helped me keep my bearings, "Lord, You told me when I decided to follow You, You would walk and talk with me all the way. But I'm aware that during the most troublesome times of my life there is only one set of footprints. I just don't understand why, when I need You most, You leave me."

He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Harringtons,
I am glad the ice storm did not cause you serious problems.
There are so many things to be thankful for during this Holy Season. Ashley's progress and her family's loving care are among the wonderful things that God has brought to us to teach us of his constant presence.
God bless.

Hey Harrington's,
Glad to hear you all had a wonderful Christmas together with Christmas Lights and heat and Power to watch all of your favorite Christmas movies!! I'm sure you felt the Love of our Dear Lord surrounding all of you on the birthday of His Son Jesus! Ashley you have worked so hard this year and we want you to know we love and admire your strength, your courage and determination! When our power came back on we were ever so grateful! So much we take for granted! So much to be thankful for!
Just wanted to let you all know that Holly arrived safely in Rome late this evening!! This was not according to the schedule however, as she was suppose to leave at 10:30 on Saturday morning from O Hare! After many many cancellations and almost a 10 hour delay sitting in the airport, the kids finally were put on another flight to Milan and had to wait once again for another plane to Rome!!! They missed the whole first day of the pilgrimage, and still do not have their luggage but are where they are suppose to be this evening! Thank You Jesus! (Italy is 6 hours ahead of us!) So Holly is tucked in tight in her bed as I write this note to you!Let's hope the kids can get on with the PILGRIMAGE and all the praying they went there to do!!! Tomorrow they are walking across the street to St. Peter's Bacillica! They have a very busy schedule planned for all 10 days but also time for reflection and lots of prayer!! I know Holly will be praying for you Ashley!! I want to wish you all the joy the new Year can bring and lots and lots of answered prayers!!!
With lots of Love and many Hugs, Claudia and gang

Merry Christmas Ashley!
I'm so happy to hear about all of your accomplishments. Your perseverance and determination to recover 100% is truly admirable. It sounds like you're having a great time over the break with family and friends. Make sure you watch lots of Christmas movies! I suggest watching Home Alone- I forgot how good of a movie that was until I saw it the other day! Have a Happy New Year!
Love,
Kelly

Ash--

I am so sorry I've missed a couple postings! Wrapping up school was a two week process and then once I got home, Christmas Pandemonium hit and only now am I able to relax! But don't worry; I'm back!

I also apologize for not being able to visit yet. Again, I've been rushing around for Christmas stuff. I love Christmas, but it's so hectic!

Speaking of busy, I bet your social card has been all filled. Your dad said some of the girls visited last week-- sounded fun! I'll be calling shortly to see if you want a playdate with me! (That's my new phrase... "playdate" or "let's play!" because, really, what was more fun when we were little than ringing our friends' doorbells and saying, "can so-and-so come out to play?")

I can't wait to get caught up with you. Sounds like you're still making amazing strides left and right! Can't wait to hear about your Christmas! I bet you looked beautiful! Mom said the last couple of times she has seen you, you've been looked so good! YAY! Oh, and just to let you know, there are LOTS of exclamation points in this posting! As always :)

I love you, Miss Ashley, and I cannot wait to see you!

GOD BLESS!

XoXo,

Emily

PS. WALK! TALK! EAT!
