February 25th

Ashley had a great week last week. While there where no earth shattering milestones to report she did well everyday last week. Her attitude has been very positive. Each day in therapy she participated well and the therapists are all setting new goals for her. At home she is communicating to us so we know what she needs and wants.

She still has a long way to go, but we see a matching up between Ashley’s ambition and her body’s cooperation. Her right arm is moving more than it has in months. She is having fewer spasms and the ones that do occur appear to be shorter in length. When Ashley is transferred from one spot to another she is putting more weight on her own legs and aiding in the transfer.

Ashley had therapy everyday last week which is a first since she got home. It makes for a busy day, but we know that having Ashley home has played an important part in her progress as well.

Reading Ashley her updates over the weekend had the usual affect of putting a big smile on her face. Ashley is totally aware of all the loving support around her and that alone is sufficient driving force for her to focus on getting better.

Ash--

Hey, sweetheart! Look at that pretty smile! It's so beautiful! Yay!!

The caption under our picture brought tears to my eyes-- and you know I'm no crier! It is the least I can do to make your time a little better. I feel so inadequate... I wish I could do more. I love my education at Purdue (I want you to come and have a real PU experience!), but sometimes I want to go to school at home just so I can be with you and spend time with you. I can't wait until summer-- we'll be able to go on walks! See sunshine! Bask in its warmth and glory!

But until then (and continuing during that time, too!) I will keep posting my mundane activities that pale in comparison to your determined and fierce actions and improvements.

I love you, Ashley Marie.
And you let your daddy know that every moment you're kicking, moving, smiling, and communicating it's an earth shattering milestone surpassed.

Keep up the amazing work!
xoxo,
Emily*

Hi Ashley,
Whoopee! We had a 2 hour delay for school today. I love that extra couple hours. Tons of snow and wind, but a little sunshine, which was wonderful. Aunt Kathy and Uncle Dave are in Florida at Grandma and Grandpa's, it's only 84 degrees there. They were at the pool while I was fighting with the snowblower. I'm guessing that you are very pleased with more therapy. Your mom and dad probably told them what a hard working and determined young lady you are, so they realized they better kick things up a notch. Tell your dad I found something good about owning a cat....my house is actually cleaner now because I have to vacumn the pet hair all the time! I also have a fear of litter box smell so I'm a cleaning machine. We love you, see you Saturday. Aunt Beth, Jessica, Angela, and I will be there. Love, Aunt Lynn

In my local paper, there is a story of woman in California who recently recovered fully after a fight with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. It is a story of real hope.(you will have to copy & paste)

I have been following your daughter's recovery almost from the beginning and it is great how well she is doing!
